OLIVES’ Stakeholder Engagement & Compensation Support for Gateway Exploration Ltd (2025 – Ongoing)

In 2025, OLIVES, in collaboration with a mining consultant, began providing comprehensive social-performance consultancy services to Gateway Exploration Ltd. in the Eastern Region of Ghana. OLIVES is supporting the company’s exploration programme through effective stakeholder engagement, community coordination, grievance management, and compensation processes. The assignment ensures that Gateway’s exploration activities—including soil sampling, mapping, trenching, and drilling—are conducted in a socially responsible and community-inclusive manner.

A major pillar of OLIVES’ work is the identification, selection, and capacity-building of Community Negotiation Committee (CNC) and Grievance & Compensation Committee (GCC) representatives across affected communities. Guided by transparent criteria such as literacy, residency, age, physical fitness, and active farming status, OLIVES facilitated community nominations to ensure that credible and respected representatives were appointed. These representatives now serve as the primary liaison between Gateway and farmers on issues of crop valuation, compensation, and dispute resolution.

OLIVES also supports the day-to-day field exploration activities by conducting accurate documentation of affected crop counts on farms, ensuring all disturbances to farmland and economic trees are properly recorded. This continuous field presence strengthens transparency, builds farmer confidence, and provides Gateway with reliable data for compensation assessments.

To further ensure fairness and accountability, OLIVES established a two-tier Grievance and Compensation Structure to enable prompt grievance intake, objective validation of losses, transparent compensation processing, and consistent communication with Gateway.

Through this intervention, OLIVES has enhanced community trust, safeguarded farmer livelihoods, and ensured a credible, well-documented compensation process that enables Gateway Exploration Ltd. to carry out its operations smoothly in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
